Beloved,
during my stay in Tobago, at the " Pancake House ",
run by my Sis, Kathy and Bro Wayne. Who are my protectors and guides in Tobago.
I was shown the day life and the night life of Tobago.
Tobago is a very spiritual place. I was just recuperating from my first Carnival in Trinidad.
In Trinidad I was taken through the initiation process
of " Orisha ' by my bro. Priest " OLU DARI ". It was
aronic that Bro OLU DARI and I were in Calabar, Nigeria, at the convention of " The Brotherhood Of The
Cross and Star ".
We didn"t know each other then . It was a deep time.
One of the Trinidadians died in Calabar . There were
rumers of " OBEAH ".
So when I came to Tobago , I was interested in the
spiritul life of Spiritual baptist . As the spirit would
have it , My spirit guide was Sis Marylyn , wife of
Sifu Khabir .
Sis Marylyn is high up in Spiritual Baptist . She Invited
me to a " THANKSGIVING ". She didn"t know my spiritual stance . She said ; Stay close to me , things
might get a little emotional .
She had duties to do and soon we were separated . I
have been in many ceremonies of all kinds of african
based cultures .
Being a drummer I found my way into the drum family
I was drumming my hands off . The spirit would reveal
a break for me to share . In Vudun drumming a break
or " Kase " is what causes a spirit to mount it"s horse .
In Spiritual Baptist drumming , a " Cut ' is what the dancers get off on . There is is a drum called
" CUTTER ". Each time I played a " CUT ", a priest would " CUT " his eyes at me .
I diffinatly was a stranger , and I don"t think I was
playing a " CUTTER DRUM ". I was playing bottom.
Most drummers want the " top ". They can " RIF "
from there .
In Vudun drumming the " Manman " is the base drum
and the " talker ". So I had no problem ' Cutting ".
from the bottom . Now as I think for the first time , The
Spiritual Baptist priests were getting a double dose of
the spirit . AAhaa! thats why that Priest kept giving me
the " EYE ".
After wards an Elder woman came over and hugged me. She said that was some excelent " Cutting ",she
used to be a drummer . That was all the validation I
needed .
Sis Maryln said she was worried as to where I was ?
when she saw me on the drum stand, she knew I was o.k.
After that all of a sudden all I could see were turbanned women
Spiritual Baptist were all over tobago waiting and watching over me.
